From 2023 to 2025, the “Super Election Year” featured major elections across Indonesia, Thailand, the United States, Mexico, and Taiwan. As a country
classified as competitive authoritarianism Indonesia saw heightened and widespread suppression of dissent, particularly targeting those who criticized
election administration. Restrictions took various forms, including police reports filed against activists, intimidation of critics, and physical attacks aimed at silencing
civil society. Amnesty International Indonesia documented systemic violations of freedoms of assembly and association during the 2024 elections,
