Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Attorney General ST Burhanuddin hopes that judges who handle corruption cases will dare to follow up on the plan to give death sentences for high-profile criminals.
This was revealed in an online discussion entitled the application of the death penalty on Thursday (25/11). According to him, the law allows the judge to pass the sentence.

"The legal breakthrough in the form of imposing a death penalty in the prosecution process, I hope, can be followed up with a judge's breakthrough in deciding a corruption case," said Burhanuddin when giving his speech.

He refers to a number of statutory regulations that can be used by judges in implementing the sentence.

For example, he said, in Article 17 of the Supreme Court Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning Guidelines for Criminalization and Article 2 paragraph 2 of the Corruption Eradication Law.

The regulation explains that judges can impose a death penalty as long as the case has a high error rate and the defendant's profit.
