Suara.com – Lembaga Imparsial has revealed that death sentences in Indonesia has occured the most under the administration of Joko Widodo (Jokowi). At least during the five-year period of Jokowi's 2014-2019 administration, there were 221 people who were sentenced to death. This figure even beat the era of BJ Habibie's administration to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the 1998-2013 period, which was 197 death sentences.

"So this shows the government's (Jokowi) lack of commitment to protect the rights of its people to live," said Imparsial researcher Amalia Suri through an online video discussion, Friday (12/3/2021). Meanwhile, in Jokowi's second term, from 2019-2021, there were at least 115 death sentences. As for the total people sentenced by Jokowi, there were 336 people who were sentenced to death.

“The second period is not too long ago. This, when combined the first and second periods, only took 6 years. Meanwhile, from the Habibie era to SBY, there were 197" said Amalia.

Amalia also detailed that in the second period of Jokowi's administration, 115 death sentences consisted of a number of cases, 82 narcotics, 33 murders, and 1 terrorism.

In addition, Amalia also revealed that throughout the reform era from 1998 to 2016, the government had executed 45 people, with details of 25 narcotics cases, 17 murder cases, and 3 terrorism cases.
