TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Member of Commission I DPR RI Major General TNI (Ret.) TB Hasanuddin revealed that as many as 13 Military Operations in Papua had been carried out for 34 years, from 1966 to 2000.
He said these operations included the Bharatayuda Operation from 1966 to 1967, the Awareness Operation, the Authority Operation, the Ultimate Operation in 1970-1974, the Smile Operation in 1977-1978, the Clean Sweep or Saber Operation in 1978-1982.
In addition, he said, there were also Operation Crow I and Gagak II from 1985 to 1987, Operation Cassowary from 1987 to 1988, Operation Cassowary Two from 1988 to 1988, Operations Rajawali I, II, and III from 1989 to 1995, and Operations Rajawali I, II and III from 1989 to 1995. safeguarding vulnerable areas in 1998-2000.
He explained these military operations when describing the root causes of the problems in Papua.
Regarding the root of the problem in Papua, he cited the results of an LIPI research entitled Road Map of Papua which was submitted during the RDPU Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament on January 18th, 2010.
In the study, he said, it was stated that there were four root causes of Papua's problems, one of which was related to the need for accountability for past state violence against citizens who caused some kind of trauma to the people in Papua as a result of military operations.
Meanwhile, according to Hasanuddin, the three other root problems in Papua are marginalization, failure in the fields of development in the fields of education, health, and people's economic empowerment, as well as the conception of history that has become a polemic, especially regarding the Act.
“You can imagine in my records, I also happen to be a former soldier. So I noted that from 1966 to 2000, there were 13 military operations for 34 years," Hasanuddin said in a Webinar entitled Human Security in Papua which was broadcast on Imparsial Indonesia's Youtube channel on Thursday (2/12/2021).
