Seven families of victims of the Tangerang prison fire complained to Komnas HAM that they were asked to sign a statement that they could not sue the state regarding their relatives who died in the fire.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS -Seven families of victims of the Tangerang Class I prison fire complained of alleged human rights violations in the handling of the victims who died in the prison in early September. The victim's family admitted that they were intimidated by the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights when they signed a statement that they could not sue the state for this tragic incident.
The complaints were submitted by the seven families to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) in Jakarta, Thursday (28/10/2021). They were accompanied by an advocacy team for fire victims consisting of LBH Masyarakat, Imparsial, LBH Jakarta, and LPBH NU Tangerang. They reported to Komnas HAM about alleged human rights violations in handling the bodies of victims of the Tangerang Class I prison fire.
