Imparsial says death penalty in Indonesia should be moratorium

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Senior researcher Imparsial Al Araf has urged the government and courts to place a moratorium on the death penalty by stopping the execution of sentences and the death penalty. This is because, the death penalty is the only punishment that cannot be corrected.

Moreover, said Al Araf, Law Number 1 of 2023 or the new Criminal Code has provided a compromise or middle ground for groups that are pro and con the death penalty.

“This should be used as a space to carry out a moratorium on the death penalty in Indonesia. The death penalty must be rejected because the death penalty is the only punishment that cannot be corrected,” said Al Araf in a discussion entitled “The New Criminal Code and the Problems of the Death Penalty in Indonesia” at Sadjoe Cafe &; Resto, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/4/2023).
