tirto.id – The National Police will change back the uniforms of security guards throughout Indonesia which were previously similar to police uniforms. The news was conveyed by the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan. He admitted that his institution is currently reviewing the change in the color of the security guard's uniform, which resembles a police officer, to beige. "Still in the process of reviewing the color of the light brown shirt, it will change to beige," said Ramadhan in Jakarta, Wednesday night (12/1/2022) as reported by Antara.
Ramadhan reasoned that the effort to change the color of the clothes was carried out because the public had difficulty distinguishing between security guards and the police. On the other hand, the function of the security guard is a different profession from the police.
However, the use of the new color of the security guard uniform will be implemented within one year. For the record, the change of the security guard uniform from white-dark blue to light brown has taken place since October 2020. This refers to the Regulation of the Indonesian National Police Number 4 of 2020 concerning Self-Care Security. At that time, the National Police argued that the similarity of the color of the security guard uniform to the police was expected to create emotional closeness, foster pride, and glorify the security guard profession.
However, in practice it turns out that the change in the security guard uniform is similar to the police uniform, making the public confused. This prompted the National Police to review again to change the security guard uniform from light brown to beige. The plan of the Police to change back the uniform of the security guard received a public response. Imparsial Director Gufron Mabruri assessed that the effort to change the color of the security guard's clothes was a consequence of the National Police's reluctance to listen to public aspirations. In the past, before the policy changed to brown, said Gufron, civil society had criticized the plan to change the security guard uniform from white-dark blue to brown or similar to a police uniform. This concern has now turned out to be a reality. “[Critics of changing uniforms] are not enough to be heard by the Police and are still being forced, so in reality, after being enforced, people are confused about which security guard is today. And the impact is felt by the police themselves, not only the police but also the community," said Gufron to a Tirto reporter, Thursday (1/13/2022).
